Leaving Certificate
The technical nature of the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) offered in the college has always appealed to a wide range of students. There are specialist Engineering and Building Construction rooms in addition to three fully equipped Science Laboratories, three Computer rooms, Technical Drawing rooms, Art Room and a Language Laboratory.
Students follow a programme from the following list of subjects:
English Building Construction Art Irish Engineering Business Maths Physics & Chemistry Religious Education French Technical Drawing Physical Education
Leaving Certificate Applied
Plunket College was one of a number of pilot schools to introduce this programme in 1995/96. Students accumulate credits by attending school and completing modules of work satisfactorily in the different subject areas. They are also required to complete a certain number of student tasks for which they receive marks. So, they are building up credits on a continuous basis as they make their way through the two year programme. The final examination only attracts one third, approximately, of the total marks available.
Course Content:
The course is divided into three main areas of study:
Vocational Preparation:
Focuses on preparation for work, work experience, enterprise and communications.
Vocational Education:
The specialist areas of study include Construction/Manufacturing, Engineering, Art & Craft.
General Education:
Includes Languages, Social Education, Maths, Science, Leisure/Recreation and Information Technology, Religious Education
